Tides are ever changing in this world. Be it sentiment or movements in our oceans, tides are critical. This painting was started to be a nighttime cityscape with the horizon placed in the middle of the painting. The underpainting peeks through with warm reds and oranges.
As marks were made, I made a decision to “start over” and proceeded to lay down thick black paint right in the middle of the canvas. I split the bottom and top halves and used vertical brushwork in a very quick fashion. A couple of marks made on the far right side of the canvas can be interpreted as boats. Here’s the tie-in to tides.
The finishing touches of orange and blue added just a bit more abstraction of shape and design. As with most of my art I like to paint fast and loose, with brush and palette knife work being very present with closer observation.
