While working with purely abstract images, I refined my technique of first applying layers of color (underpainting) and then covering the entire with thin, vertical, hand-painted lines of varying opacity, creating a unique interplay between color, light and texture.
The Strata Series is based on the layered geology of the desert southwest, a direct result of trips to the southwest, summers in Taos, and a move to Santa Fe from New York City. The multi-hued, banded strata, broad mesas, steep-sided canyons and stark badlands of the Colorado Plateau have had a profound impact on my work.
Ghost Ranch Box is a place of magnificent natural beauty. It is comprised of deep, Â multicolored canyons, cliffs, plains, grasslands and streams. Ghost Ranch is located on the far eastern end of the Colorado Plateau. At it’s start, the Ghost Ranch Box trail skirts the base of a monolith of Entrada sandstone with a verdant wetland and pond.
All images currently  in the Strata Series are from geologically significant locations on the Colorado Plateau of New Mexico and Utah.
