This piece is part of the Anonymous Series. The paintings are based on photos I took at various Museums around the country, of people looking at art, or not not looking at art! The faces are always, or mostly, turned away to create a sense of anonymity. I love how the figures create rhythms and patterns across the galleries. The Roger van der Weyden Altarpiece is one of my favorite paintings. It resides at the PMA. One day as I was visiting it I saw this group of what seemed to be gang member gathered in front, all on their cellphones. I got a good chuckle out of that until I realized, they had come to the museum to see art! Appearances are deceptive!
The Anonymous Series was developed when I lived on the East Coast and had access to the many fabulous museums in NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC. Now that I live in Santa Fe I will focus my attention on the museums of Denver and California. I have yet to start exploring that area but will soon.
