As an emerging artist, I border on both a modern impressionist and an abstract expressionist, often combining the two, while keeping my subjects recognizable. I paint colorful landscapes and abstracts, in oils, watercolors, or acrylics. I prefer to paint in an organic style, using my love of color, my emotions, and the strokes of my brush to allow my creations to emerge.
One of my happiest places is being near the ocean, when the sun is shining, and the sky is so blue, streaked with clouds that look like they’ve been painted, and the warmth of the sun makes everything right again. I am in love with sunsets and sunrises. To me there is no color palette more beautiful than nature’s paint box. I often draw on nature for inspiration, whether a field of flowers, the diverse shape and textures of trees, or the beauty of the skies. There is something about it that makes you and your problems feel so much smaller than the universe around us.
Sometimes it is a feeling or an emotion that must come out. I take those emotions and try to express them through colors and my brushstrokes. I do not always have a specific concept in mind. Some mornings I wake up with a full painting in mind. Other days, it is just colors in my head, and I know what my palette will be that day. Once I put the colors to canvas, the dance begins.
