Golden patina covers the old doors and walls of an Ellis Island Hospital passageway. A shaft of white light that pours through the open door catches on a fallen dried leaf. There is a deep blue color that shows around the inside edge of a dark cupboard opening. All the doors in this image are open, suggesting passage, but these once bustling hospital rooms are silenced in the long shuttered abandonment. The immigrant experience included passage into a new world as well as passages into the afterlife.
