It all began on December 19, 2020 — the worst possible date for an event: five days before Christmas and in the middle of a pandemic. Despite that, we set out to break the beach cleanup mileage record of 16 miles while collecting toys for children in local hospitals.
Our plan was simple: divide 110 miles of coastline from Hobe Sound to Virginia Key into half-mile sections. Volunteers picked their areas and cleaned southward. We hoped to reach 17 consecutive miles — but the results far exceeded expectations.
We ended up cleaning 25 consecutive miles, covering over 43 total miles, and collecting 100 toys. That day proved people want to help — they just need a way to start. That’s when our motto was born: “Be The Spark.” Together, we continue to spark change for beaches and communities everywhere.
Today, the Better Days Foundation hosts more than 40 free community events each year, supporting small businesses and offering engaging programs like wellness activations and family “Parent and Me” meetups.
Garret’s newest initiative, Wheels of Change, transforms used cars into opportunities to impact lives and communities. His first Tour for Change was an incredible 1,800-mile journey across Florida, completing seven charitable acts with seven foundations in seven cities over seven days — raising awareness and support for organizations such as The Ronald McDonald House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and The United Way.
