Art Santa Fe 2024 Highlights

Art Santa Fe celebrated its 24th edition from July 12–14 at the stunning Santa Fe Convention Center, showcasing a remarkable array of artwork from local, national, and international galleries. The event featured a dynamic selection of innovative pieces, drawing art lovers and collectors to explore and find unique additions to their collections. With over 90 galleries, art publishers, and artists presenting original works from hundreds of creators, the fair floor buzzed with excitement, activity, and successful sales and commissions throughout the event.

ATTENTION GRABBING PROGRAMMING

Art Santa Fe 2024 kept attendees actively engaged with a range of programming and events. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the Centennial Zozobra Exhibition, connect with the Spotlight Program recipients, and participate in the Art Labs’ innovative projects. Daily Meet the Artists sessions offered interactive experiences, giving guests the chance to interact with the artists and gain  perspective on their creative processes firsthand.

The Spotlight Program provided collectors with a focused look at four featured artists and galleries who created a site-specific exhibition. Spotlight Program recipients for 2024 included:

This year’s Art Labs featured a series of outstanding projects by leading galleries, art institutions, and art collectives presented on-site within the fair, and included Contemporary Art Gallery USA’s Amandla: The Power Within, the Anti-Uranium Mapping Project, the Redwood Art Collective, and the Santa Fe Gallery Association’s Centennial Zozobra Exhibition.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

Artists and galleries were presented special honors as recipients of this year’s Art Santa Fe Awards. This year’s proud winners were the following:

  • BEST BOOTH DESIGN: Deidre Greenly and Linda Roberts
  • SCULPTURE: Andrew Libecki and Vivienne Riggio
  • BEST NEW EXHIBITOR: Craig Robb, Entrophy Gallery, and Dan Pfieffer
  • BEST INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITOR: Edel #Art, Ezequiel Matobe, and Sophie Brouillet
  • DIRECTORS’ AWARD: Von Siebert and Katie Crown
  • BEST [SOLO] EXHIBITOR: Amy Keever, Mark Levin, and M. Tobias Hall
  • AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: Contemporary Art Gallery USA and David Disko Art

SALES & SUCCESS STORIES

The number of sales and commissions reported throughout the show this year was impressive, as were the gallery placements by [SOLO] artists. Here is a brief look at some of this year’s reported exhibitor sales.

  • Contemporary Art Gallery USA celebrated their 14th year at Art Santa Fe placing multiple pieces by Carola Orieta Sperman, as well as pieces byEvelyn Ortiz, Fara Thomas, and Peggy Hinaekian, with prices ranging from $5,900 to $11,000. Several additional sales and a commission were reported to have been made in the week following the fair.
  • David Disko’s booth was a popular destination with multiple works sold, including Flowering Trees, River & Rainbow, From a Speeding Car #3, Amaryllis, Somewhere in the Southwest, and And Shadow.
  • Dana Swedo rocked with collectors loving her works, including placing Twilight Blue, Soothing Sea, October Sky, Indigo Water, and Summer Reflections.
  • Dongli Ma was quite successful with their first showing, placing The World of Events #1, The World of Events #2, and Previous Time – Perspective Time.
  • Edel # Art returned to Art Santa Fe and collectors responded with multiple sales at the fair including Yoshikazu Kajikawa’s Campbell Soup and several others; Naoh’s Hokusai; Emiko Shibata’s Spring Comes 1 & 2; Megg’s Rub My Belly, Please Clean My Ass, and Love Tree; Kazuo Tanaka’s Orta; and Mayuko Hanal’s Equal.
  • Elizabeth Frank’s booth was a busy place. She sold many pieces from her amazing Sculpture collection, including Solstice Heart, Gaia’s Angel, Wildflower Moonface, To the Sea, The Spirit #2, Moonface & Fly Catcher, Tree Spirit 2, Untitled, and Humminbird Moonface, ranging in price from $170 to $2,750.
  • First time exhibitor M. Tobias Hall had a great show, placing multiple pieces from his Landscape Collection including Rabbit Road #2, Le Jardin, Argentonny Pont, Argentonny, Pecos, Jemez Tesuque, Diablo Canyon, Ojo, Jemez Mountains 2, Cloves on Copper, plus several prints and studies, ranging in price from $200 to $18,000.
  • Michael Gorman with Michael Gorman Gallery and nephew of R.C. Gorman is keeping the tradition of his family’s sculpture tradition alive with his first showing at Art Santa Fe, placing several sculptures including Marked on Green and Homage to Soiderwoman & Navajo Weavers.
  • Philippe Jestin had a successful fair placing several of his distinctive works , including Stripe Pose #5, Stripe Pose Study #80, Stripe Pose #42, Stripe Pose Study #122, and Stripe Pose Study #134.
  • Robert Redus was pleased to place She Wears Red Robes, The City, The High Road, San Lorenzo Canyon, and Chinle.
  • Rosa Silbert sold Good Vibrations and Warrior, plus multiple glass pendants to happy collectors.
  • Suzanne Tacheny Kubach‘s Fresh Start, Year of the Dragon, Petite Coliquete, and Orange Beauty each found new homes.
  • Sydney Gruber sold The Royal Walk and As Time Flys By.
  • Tlacaelel Trujllo y Fuentes placed several of his creative collages, including Pyramid, The Place of Origin, and Picardo.
  • Wanelle was pleased to place Honor at $4,600 and King Starr at $5,300.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! THE MEDIA BUZZED!

It’s no wonder — one of Santa Fe’s iconic art fairs returned for its 22nd edition — and it had the media was buzzing! Media coverage included a shout-out in American Art Collector, Southwest Contemporary, SantaFe.com, Santa Fe New Mexican, Pasatiempoand others.
