Description
This piece is a collaboration between myself and my wife, artist, Julie Schumer. Julie provided the abstract base and I created the actual face.
My portraits reflect my continuing quest to explore the human condition. The paintings are created layer after layer, with the face reassembled multiple times until the image reveals its essence or personality. In this case, the features were virtually sculpted in paint.
I see my role as artist as akin to a shaman, trusting my instincts and freeing my images from their customary restraints.
