When my wife worked in the Senior Management of NATO as a close colleague of Jens Stoltenberg, NATO’s Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Norway, we became a Norway-enthusiasts and traveled to Norway several times, even trying cross-country skiing, a skill, Norwegians are born with. We were amazed by the beauty of Venabu (where we went several times), Stavanger, Lillehammer, Trysil, and Oslo, and my wife also visited Kirkenes, Bodø, and Bergen. One day when I was looking for new music for painting, as I am always listening to music when I paint. Music brings out colors. This is when I found a piece by Thomas Bergersen, a Norwegian composer and multi-instrumentalist. He composed an orchestra piece entitled “A Storm is Brewing”. The phrase “storm is brewing” is an idiomatic expression that means that there is going to be a storm. It may also mean that there is going to be trouble or emotional upset in the near future. So this is the story behind this artwork where I painted our beloved Venabu, the blue of the snow at night before the snow storm.
