About the Artist

Kim Powell graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration. She continued her studies in painting and Spanish and lived for 18 years in Mexico and Chile before returning to the U.S. in 2019. While painting has been her primary medium, she has spent the last three decades making music, acting in plays, and following her creative bliss. As a longtime student of eastern studies and meditation, her art explores themes of interconnectedness and transcendence. She aims for her art to evoke familiarity and connection, which points to our true oneness.

About the Work

Bold curving lines and vibrant, glowing colors take the viewers on a visual journey. Sweeping movement and depth of layers act as a reflection of life and all its energy. When a viewer witnesses something familiar in a painting, there is a kind of alchemy in that awareness. There is a perceptual shift, a connection made, and inner truths may reveal themselves. Powell’s intuition has grown sharper by learning to have more trust in signs and synchronicities. Adjacent colors, shapes, and forms, like chords, have resonance. Experimenting with those harmonies, she aims to leave the viewer soul-connected and nourished. Her abstract paintings explore our shared being through themes of self-discovery and connection through contemplation. The work engages the viewer in our interconnectedness, whether intellectual, emotional, or spiritual. It invites viewers to visit realms beyond the physical but instead in the space-between.
