During 1900-1920 many immigrants came to America through Ellis Island next to the Statue of Liberty. They lived in Lower East Side, Little Italy, and Chinatown. They had a simple hard life working in sweatshops. Dreaming of home and a better life for themselves and their children. Then the Great Depression era came about and they lost lots of their hard-earned money. But their children had a better prosperous life. The American dream for that generation came through for their children and grandchildren who are considered baby boomers. We have to be grateful for all of them because they built America with their hard work. The inspiration for this painting came about from an essay I wrote for sociology and psychology class. this painting gives a sense of history and hope for future generations.
