The Macaw is an iconic avian of the rainforest that has always drawn my attention. I was born and raised in Ohio’s great corn ocean, but with half of my heritage rooted in a vast different ecosystem, the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica. Illustrative books of these rainforest ecosystems always drew my interest, as I sought to understand an abstract part of myself. The Macaw was always a bright and striking icon of this mythical ecosystem I sought to connect with. The Macaw twins look over their shoulders, peering at the viewer, inviting them to explore themselves, as I have through my dual heritage.
The Macaw Twins are painted on two separate wood panels, but come together to form on work of art.
