Moana Kala Kala (Ocean Colors) is part of my Oceania Series of abstractions inspired by the patterns and psychedelic color combinations seen in the markings on ocean animals, especially from the tropical waters of the Hawaiian Islands where I grew up. My aim is to capture the beauty I see in the details of nature’s wondrous creations, and expand them out into patterns and images that can be appreciated out here, above the sea in our human world. This piece is created as an endless repeat pattern, cropped here into a square format. The image is entirely hand drawn using a stylus on a tablet and meticulously colored using a variety of digital painting and drawing tools.
