“Ni te atrevas” was created in 2020 by master oil painter René Cheng.

Cheng painted this contemporary figurative artwork during the pandemic. Cheng purchased the copyright of the original photograph from his colleague Jim Corwin. The photograph was the reference for Cheng. The artist captures the angry look of the housewife getting ready for a social event. The spouse taking her picture is threatening to upload her picture and post it on social media, mocking her. Cheng admires women because they have to manage different tasks in life and sometimes are not credited for it. You can almost hear the children asking for some popcorn while trying to get ready. Cheng wants to empower the underdog, and women have been the underdog for decades. Nevertheless, there have been and still are women that are extremely strong, powerful and influential in all areas of life (Queen Elizabeth II, Lady Diana, Teresa de Calcutta, Grace Kelly, Liz Taylor, Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand and in the past Zarina Katherine the Great, Cleopatra, Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene, etc.). The artist wants to remind us that we are all valuable, powerful, influential, and all have the capacity to make this a better world, regardless of our circumstances, race, belief system, gender, sexuality, etc.

From a curatorial point of view, Cheng captures her look so realistically that she follows you if you observe her from ANY angle. A true masterpiece that has been exhibited in different countries and has won some awards. It has been exhibited in Scotland and England at the RSA.
