While living on the high planes, in the foothills of Boulder Colorado, I spent a lot of time out in the farmlands near lakes and streams. During that time, I came across a Blue Heron colony built in the soft shade of the Cotton Woods. As sun set, I had the pleasure of watching them return to roost to the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. This is the first piece in my avian series, and encapsulates the love of a nest and the majesty of these primordial creatures.
