“No Soy Tuya” was created in 2022 by master oil painter René Cheng.

Cheng painted this contemporary figurative artwork during the pandemic. Made as a pictorial protest against violence against women and violence in general.

SHE is the ghostly woman, with a distrustful look, whose mask and her gag do not allow her to see or talk about the violence and harassment of which she is a part of her life. Cheng is an advocate for the underdog and has been more than concerned about the death and disappearance of several women in México. It all came into the public scrutiny through the “Muertas de Juarez”.  It is a protest against machismo, but just like the exaggeration of the feminist movement itself, which no longer allows flattering a woman without being accused of sexual harassment. Violence creates violence. Respect and love generate their respective virtues. Cheng is against all kinds of violence and injustice. Notice how he carefully depicted a female character trying to represent a female being? Or the “blood” scattered through the painting? Cheng encourages all human beings being mistreated to speak up and urges humanity to stop the violence, human trafficking, injustice, etc.
