SIAMO TUTTI QUI, By Dina El-Sioufi
“Fragments of existence that touch me or fire my imagination.”
Created by London-based artist, Dina El-Sioufi, this painting is part of a series of paintings where she’s inspired by various photos of artists, composers, poets etc,. figures of singularity; personalities that stand out because of their creativity/creative genius. Dina’s work often involves the artists as well as quotations, figures from their entourage, their own work as a form of painting-collage that she uses in her work.
This painting is after a photograph of the Bulgarian painter Jules Pascin (1885-1930) and a group of Bohemians in his adopted Paris that was often modeled for him. And we’re always ready to party in spite of any hardships.
The figure in profile on the far right meant to be a portrait of Pascin ended up resembling the famous much loved Italian comic actor Toto. Thus, inspiring the choice of Italian title. “We are all here”
