LUCHO SOLER

Discovered his vocation as a pottery maker at the age of ten. He was born in Lima, Peru in 1955. He enriched his knowledge of clay and ceramics on his very own. He is a self-taught artist who decided to work clay the same ways as his ancestors: The Pre-Columbian ceramics masters of ancient Peru.

As one achievement and amazing experience accomplished by Lucho was to learn about Native American in the US and the beautiful pottery made in the various Pueblo artists in New Mexico.

Soon he was living among the most renowned potters in Santa Clara Pueblo in an amazing exchange of clay and life teaching and learning; the city of Santa Fe and other Pueblo Native Reservations was Lucho’s home for near a quarter of a century in the heart of one of the world’s most renowned centers for art in more than 350 galleries and art studios in the city.

Since his return to Peru, he has been teaching pottery in several regions of the country and currently resides in the Inca village of Ollantaytambo (Cusco), where he works to perfect his beautiful pottery art and passing his knowledge to local students and foreign visitors interested in learning form the master.

The unique combination of Peru’s ancient legacy in ceramic art and a touch of contemporary aesthetics are apparent in Lucho’s work, a very unique blend which is not limited to superficial visual effect; it is based upon a meticulous and in-depth study of the techniques mastered by the experts of Peru’s pre Hispanic past.
