I was born in Rotterdam, raised in Rijssen and have been living with my husband and later 3 children in Hengelo (ov) since 1989.
My artistry has developed into adulthood over the past 21 years. Through trial and error, screaming for attention, sometimes insecure as a teenager, it has become a part of me.
This “4 the child” was born during ceramic classes (from Ludmilla van der Reel) at that time Crea in Hengelo. There I learned the basics of clay, after a few years I was seized by the mosaic virus in Venice. I soon started combining these techniques.
After playing in childhood, this art child felt the need to deepen, and in 2010 he started an art education in Driebergen. This human development through art gave me a solid foundation for further growth through subjects such as philosophy and art history.
During this training I also started to delve into the different glass techniques, such as fusing, casting and pâte de Verre. Slowly the mosaic gave way to glass. The transparency of glass, the colours, the fragile of pâte de noche, continue to amaze me. The combination with clay makes these materials reinforce each other.
Clay is still my basic material, I mainly make figurative images that are created by modeling with a nude model, but more often a specific attitude based on photos where I myself am a model. Because I wanted to work bigger, in 2017 I learned techniques during a training in Belgium (led by Katrin Dekoninck) that give me the freedom to be able to sculpt monumentally despite the limitations of the oven.
I’m not a fan of glazes, I like the earthiness of the clay, by polychroming my large images, the skin of the image remains more natural.
Beauty is my inspiration, the beauty of transience, of pure nakedness, and of the cycle in nature.
I want to show the essence, to capture emotions in clay. Telling my story by showing the truth behind reality, and making the unconscious visible. This can be done very subtly, but also magnified, through a fusion of humans/animals or entanglement with nature.
