Anatoliy Anshin (www.anshin.art) has been fascinated with Japanese traditional culture since his youth. He studied it academically, initially in Russia, where he was born and spent the first half of his life, and later in Japan where he has lived permanently for over 20 years. He earned his Ph.D. in pre-modern Japanese history and published a number of academic articles and a monograph in the field. He also became a teacher of Japanese swordsmanship, Kendo. Quite late in his life, Anatoliy has embarked on picturing Japan’s nature and historical sites through fine art photography. He has been engaged in his artistic pursuits full-time since 2019. Just two years after he took a professional camera in his hands, his artworks were employed by Loupe Art (Atlanta, USA) for art streaming on major Internet TV platforms such as Apple TV, Samsung TV Plus, Google TV, Amazon Fire TV, XFinity, and others. Currently represented by art galleries in the USA and France.
Anatoliy’s photography is not preoccupied with stereotypical exotics, neither is it about merely capturing things Japanese, however beautiful they might look. It is aimed at visualizing and reconnecting with the spirituality of ancient culture that, although often lacking in modern daily life, is still accessible if we keep our hearts and minds open. He hopes his images will serve as landmarks to this rich and meaningful cultural heritage.
