I have always been and always will be an artist who appreciates the artists who came before me. But not just any artist that came before but the artists that I, in my own work, resonate with those I find common ground. Hopper was always that for me. We liked the same kinds of scenes always or usually having the composition built around people. This is the Automat with Hopper painted in 1927. I love it and wanted to do my version of it. Which is basically staying true to his version but adding my own tendency to use thicker paint and more texture.
