The Hikaru collection, (Japanese for Light and Radiance) is inspired by the stillness of silence found in the absence of color; conveying a deep sense of Oneness and Peace.
“Guided by my heart, I paint with the natural elements of beeswax, pigments, and fire; allowing me to infuse the mesmerizing beauty of nature into my art.”
The technique I use is Encaustic painting, the ancient and alchemic art of painting with beeswax mixed with pigments and damar resin (a tree sap from Indonesia) and fire. In my studio I experiment with the unpredictable and mercurial qualities of beeswax. It has taught me to treasure the imperfection and spontaneity of life.
Allowing nature and my heart to guide me, I paint layer-by-layer. It is my meditation. Adding the elements, firing with the flame of a torch, watching the beeswax and pigment combine; adding, smoothing, and fusing, again and again until I see what I feel in my heart. Then I know the work is done.
