After taking this photo, I knew I had a masterpiece.

I also knew that I needed to be careful displaying this image. For the lovely tranquility of a Turnagain, Arm evening belies an ever-present danger that lies beneath. While the tide is well removed, there is a window of opportunity in which the earth appears stable, and the photographer may venture out though always keeping in mind that the sea will return and claim what is rightfully hers.  If someone else attempted to capture a similar image, there was a real risk that they could place themselves in serious danger, if they were unfamiliar with the notorious mud of Turnagain Arm just outside Anchorage Alaska.  Thus, the image name “Deceptive Mud” was born.
