The dunes in the heart of Death Valley on a cold January morning. A one hour hike in the dark gets you out beyond where every inch is full of footprints. The light that cast this golden glow and the sensuous shadows behind lasted just a minute. To capture the full visual impact of these contours, two exposures were seamlessly painted together in a panograph. Also be sure to see Dunes 3, First Light.

The creative process is unique, all done by hand. An archival pigment print on Somerset Velvet fine-art paper is affixed to board and sealed with a clear-coat for UV protection. No glass is needed, and the image is float mounted in a hardwood maple frame. The result is striking color, clarity and uncanny three-dimensionality.

Most of my work is drawn from nature, but I enjoy creating images whose origins may not be readily clear. This kind of abstract view often leads to artworks that are intriguing, but also a bit mysterious. Always, the interaction is intended to be peaceful and relaxing.
