My Indian heritage has played a profound role in my development as an artist; always surrounded by intricate beaded sculptures and clothing, I feel deeply called to explore embroidery and beadwork as mediums. I believe painting is how I can truly explore my personal history, interests and their relationships to traditional mediums. This piece champions my hero, my Pati (Grandmother)— who may not have ever had art adorning walls of galleries, but is someone who creates art every day; she has created masterpieces using nothing but coffee powder, and has created beauty in the peels of vegetable remains; her legacy lives in each who see the world as more extraordinary in the artistic potential of each and every thing around us.
