Laurent Pheulpin statement:

Photography, the last guest in the visual arts court, is subject to many constraints. Trapped in an infinitesimal present, in a two-dimensional world and above all in reality, she walks in circles in her cell and one can wonder what she is able to see through her narrow eyepiece. So I tried, for a short escape, to play with these constraints, to invite art to lie in order to reveal some truth.

The chiaroscuro series is part of modern philosophical currents that evoke a bipolar world frozen in individualism by default or by excess. A state of mind that produces abandoned individuals or greedy and narcissistic beings. In these photos, the lighting echoes this theme. At first anemic, it becomes too intense until it dissolves the subject which is revealed only through its accessories.
