Fire consumes all.  One perspective is that it destroys and lays waste to everything it touches.  Another perspective is that the flames clear out everything in their path leaving a blank slate to begin again.   Ash represents the remanence of what once was and the foundation of what’s to come.  Heat therefore is considered one of the most important elements in change.
