Saurabh Oza, is an award-winning artist working from his studio in suburban Philadelphia. His colorful paintings are composed of several layers, exploring the relationship between the seen and unseen. Although abstract, the paintings have elements of nature, architecture, geometric patterns and cultural symbols. that repeat, shift and reconnect. His Indian roots, engineering background and life in US, all inform his art.
Born in India, Saurabh moved to USA in his twenties to work as a software engineer. Essentially self taught, his love of drawing and painting entered a new phase after arriving in Philadelphia with classes and workshops at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, regional art centers and with other local artists teaching from their own studios.
Saurabh’s work has been widely exhibited over the past ten years in and around Philadelphia and New York region.
Often, I start a painting without a set idea in mind. The process is instinctual, and the paintings are made up of several layers. As the layers build up, some things are highlighted, and others are hidden with just a hint of their existence. I am fascinated by forms and symbols, these could be organic, geometric or cultural. The shapes and colors may evoke a mystical, spiritual, philosophical or cultural response or just a sense of whimsy.
